One-Page Proposal Exercise
The purpose of this exercise is to introduce you to the structure of a proposal and help you understand how a basic proposal fits together.
Scenario
You've just been on Wheel of Fortune and won its ultimate grand prize: a new vehicle of your choice, complete with free insurance, gas, all-inclusive maintenance for the rest of your life, and an unlimited number of replacement vehicles, even if you intentionally wreck them. Therefore, you no longer need your current vehicle. You also have a teenaged neighbor whose parents are thinking about buying her/him a used vehicle.
Deliverable (1)
Write a one-page, business-letter-format proposal to the teenager's parents, suggesting that they buy your old vehicle for their daughter/son. Feel free to make up and include persuasive details that appeal to your audience, but keep it realistic (no, your current car is neither a Bentley nor a Ferrari).
Include the following information:
- an Introduction (the reason for your proposal);
- a Proposed Program (the details of the deal you propose);
- your Qualifications (why you're the right person to buy from);
- a Budget (how much is it going to cost); and
- a Schedule (when you propose to finalize the deal).
These sections do not have to be in separate paragraphs or in this specified order; they can be combined and/or reorganized, if appropriate.
Submission Requirements
Save the file in MS Word format, and use the following file naming convention, including spaces:
